Logistics

Getting the test kits out to people, and then back to the testing centre sounds pretty straightforward. In fact, it has some pretty serious challenges. Samples of this nature should be packed in clear boxes with an absorbent material inside. This is done so that upon receiving them, the staff at the testing centre can see if any of the samples have leaked into the box before opening it and potentially exposing themselves to the samples. These boxes are then transported to the testing centre by plane, train, automobile or foot depending on where the nearest testing centre is. Transporting this number of samples over such large distances is expensive and time consuming. As a result, some countries have favoured drive in test centres, where those who need tested never leave their cars and are tested through their windows. These centres can in theory cover more people who can drive larger distances to the test centres. However not everyone has a car or live large distances from any test centres. In these instances, the test kits need to be dropped off at people’s houses, they test themselves and the drivers take the tests back to the test centre. All of which is expensive and time consuming. Especially when 10% of those who book tests don´t have the common decency to even be at home when their test kits arrive. If you don’t need a test don’t book one, if you need a test you should be self-isolating in your home anyway and there is no excuse for missing a pre-booked test.
